Canvas and Cabernet is known as being the first establishment in Downtown Barrie to combine painting and sipping wine. They exploded on the scene a few years ago with that popular offering, however, there’s so much more to them than just what’s described in their name.
We visited Cyndi Taylor, the owner of Canvas and Cabernet and found she had a breezy, cool vibe to her that is reflected throughout the Dunlop Street lounge.
“I’m from the East Coast, so I needed a story telling circle, that’s the soft seating area in the front,” she told us as she was describing the area.
The lounge has a wide selection of wines from all over (she admits her favourite region is California), a great offering of food that compliments that wine in the form of a charcuterie board, which she gets from all local businesses. The highlight for many of the regulars is the record player which is connected to the lounge’s in-house stereo system, and she has a collection that dates back from the 1920’s. Although, she’s very proud of her Lady Gaga record from 2017!
A surprising fact about Cyndi and her Lounge: Cyndi claims she is not an artist! But her work is all over the walls of the back art studio, which made us ask ….are you sure? Her work is spectacular, and she uses the fact that she has no professional training to encourage patrons to have confidence when painting. She gives them six simple steps and the outcome is always really good. She’s an excellent teacher and artist.
There’s more to Canvas and Cabernet than just wine and painting. It’s a place for people in Barrie to enjoy live music, have a great conversation and ….ok, have a glass of wine too.
